Welcome to our humble space for sharing design knowledge, insight and creative possibilities. Because this is the very first entry, introductions are in order; so relax, grab a vino and let’s get to know each other!
I’m Kristen Willis a multi-disciplinary creative, mother-of-two, face and voice of Tondo Creative. It would be fair to say that I’m well seasoned in the creative industries... but let me take you back to where it all began...
Where it all began
My creative streak was developed and nurtured from a very early age, playing shop assistant in my Nonna’s Singer sewing shop. It was in this space that I was constantly exposed to textiles and patterns, which may have lead to the ‘creative expression’ of drawing all over tables, designing fashion for my dollies and gluing my fingers together crafting paddle-pop structures… The perfect playground for creativity, I was in heaven!
That awkward self-discovery stage...
Through my adolescence, fine art became a prominent attribute as I regularly participated in Queensland Regional Youth Art Exhibitions and Competitions. This active involvement naturally lead to the pursuit of a Bachelor in Visual Arts, majoring Printmaking and Drawing, and later my enrolment into Shillington College – School of Graphic Design.
Creative freedom at last!
Freelancing has been my steady groove since 2011, as well as learning the ropes of motherhood and also extending myself to part-time studio opportunities. That was until… I finally reached my tipping point and decided to evolve Tondo Creative mid-2019!
Onwards and upwards! There is so much we can learn from each other.
